We’ve all eaten too much over the break, but it’s okay because we’ll start getting healthy in January–and this year, it’ll stick!
We’ve all had business challenges in 2016, but that’s okay because starting in 2017 we’re going to have a more strategic focus–and this time, it’ll stick!
We all give ourselves lofty goals and imagine ourselves putting in the heroic effort, but we don’t think about the small things that we need to do consistently that will help us reach our goals.
It’s easy to think “I’ll go to the gym 4x week!”
It’s harder to think “I’ll track what I eat, get a fitness tracker, and truly pay attention to what I’m eating and cut out 100 calories per day.”
But the 2nd is far more likely to succeed than the first.
In business, we think, I’ll be more strategic; I’ll book off at least an hour a week for personal time to think about the company’s future; I’ll make customer appreciation a focus to curb attrition.
It’s harder to think “I’ll spend 5 minutes a day reaching out to my best clients to find out why they love us, and those who left to find out why we lost them.” And of course, to actually do it. Or, to require your staff to do the same, and pay attention to whether they’re doing it or not
So this year, don’t make yourself promises that you already know you’re going to break. Instead, make yourself a promise to do something small enough that it’ll be harder (and more shameful) to break.
Because let’s face it-if you can’t find 5 minutes a day to do that, then 2017 is going to be a rough one.
My goal is to help all of you have your best year ever by making your clients happier than ever.
Your challenge for this year: Reach out to me and let’s talk about how I can help you do that.
Happy New Year!
