What is Google Adsense

Posted by: admin In: E-Commerce

After the past article a few users emailed me and asked if I could discuss Google Adsense. While I will be discussing Google Adsense on various occasions, I thought today I’d give a little primer for new users who may be joining us and not sure what Google Adsense is. Those of you who are familar with Adsense are going to find this post quite basic and to-the-point so feel free to add some extra tips in the comment box.

Essentially, Google Adsense is an advertising program that is run by Google. If you own a website, you’re a perfect candidate to earn income from Google through the Adsense Program. To understand how it works in the most basic form, Google will place ads on your site based on the content of your website, or what you write about, where you live and various other factors. There is no doubt in my mind if you’ve spent any time surfing the web you’ve seen and most likely clicked on Google Adsense Ads. In fact, if you look above and slightly to the left, you’ll see my Adsense ads. If you look to the right, you’ll see a button that says “Get Adsense.” That button will lead you to the Google Adsense website where you can sign up.

So exactly what is all the fuss about?
Well, there are a few things. Primarily, many every day webmasters, bloggers or website owners have been able to start making money through their websites which until Adsense came around were not making anything. Some of these websites are actually making massive amounts of money through the program.

Google Adsense is amazing in that it gives practically anyone a chance to earn some money through their websites. Not all web owners are going to get rich off Adsense but if you could join and earn enough to pay for hosting, domain renewals and a few extras than it’s totally worth it.

So to sign up you can click the button on the right hand menu and submit an application. The process is simple but Google usually requires you have a website up and running before they will approve you. You should also read the Terms & Conditions because certain sites are not allowed to advertise through the Adsense program such as Gambling and Adult related sites.

If you’re an existing Advertiser and not that happy with the amount of money you’ve been making, there are some very simple, basic, no-nonsense tips and tricks you can implement. I’ll walk through those here and can almost guarantee you’ll increase your CTR (Click-Through Rate) instantly. Now there are many experts out there that will charge you an arm and a leg to teach you about Adsense. Don’t get me wrong, these experts know what they’re doing but usually there is nothing mind blowing in their so-called secrets. In fact, I’ll show you e-books I’ve paid $97 dollars for that will basically give you this one important secret.

The #1 secret to increasing your Adsense income is the way you blend your ads to match your website. You want your ads to look and feel like they’re a part of your website. Google makes this so easy. Basically, if you can choose a color from a color palette and match it to your site then you’re well on your way. Notice my ads throughout this page? Can you find them all? I’ve tried to blend them all pretty nicely. I’m a firm believer that you should never run your ads with borders, unless other content on your site is within a border. In that case, use the exact same color border.

I’m going to speak on Adsense quite frequently in this blog because I truly believe that the Google Adsense program makes it relatively easy for anyone to earn some free online income. See my previous post “Why you shouldn’t start a business” I also speak about Adsense and how you can make some money by simply starting a blog on a topic you love and simply writing about it daily.
