linchpin in training
I know my last few posts have dealt with following your dreams or taking your passion by the horns and going at it full steam ahead…
This post is no different.
How often do you fall into the shoulda, woulda, coulda category?
Here’s an easy and simple way to think about coulda, shoulda, woulda type of people and how not to fall into that category.
Instead of thinking about the past and things you should have done, could have done and would have done if for example:
etc…
Forget about it. It’s over like a bad movie.
Think about your present life situation and look at things you could do, would do and should do.
If you could do something then why aren’t you?
If you should do it then don’t delay any longer, just do it.
It seems to me that the “wouldas” are what we like to use to make excuses for not doing something. And maybe we do experience most of the limiting factors when it comes to the “wouldas?”
For example:
I would have developed the website if I had more money or better development skills.
Here’s the thing about limiting factors that I believe we all do:
The limiting factors are really just excuses of the broader overall picture. We use the “wouldas” as a way to justify our missed shots.
“Wouldas“ can really easily be conquered by breaking the limiting factors into small more measurable tasks and monitoring them carefully.
Skills can be learned.
Money can be saved.
Time can be found (we all have spare time, it’s just a matter of how we use it)
Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda is an excuse and we’re all guilty of it from time to time.
Could & Should is what matters here. Make it happen.

You B*st*rd
Jeeze Louise how do you do dat?
You got my number with this post,MAN!
I told you countless times, quit rootin' around inside my head,eh?!
Of course you have the benefit of your membership site to learn a
“little” about me
All seriousness aside…yes, Woulda Shoulda and Coulda are my evil uncles that have been living rent free in my 'attic' for WAY too long.
Those Clowns keep teasing and taunting me by calling me
“Excuse Meister Extroardinaire”
They are getting their eviction notices this week.
Keep 'em coming dude. Your posting some good zingers here.

Johnny-Boy! Thanks for reading today.
I was trying to dial in on those numbers. Glad it worked.
My advice is this, throw them out of the attic and change the locks.
Look at the small things you can do, set goals for, and measure your successes.
I can't stand those three clowns.

You know, I am known as a hermit. I am not but if I go out on one of the 4 or 5 hour lunches that happen around here I get drunk and unreasonable so I don't. If I go out in bad weather it sets my face off (better off than on
), so I get moaned at. I live my life doing things other people don't like and I am getting worse because I am finally doing what I WANT TO DO.
3 month winter holiday instead of 3 months of freezing my bum off till the heaters get the place warm at lunchtime. Lots of other ways I don't fit in in a male environment/sci-fi haters/ folk who would rather watch 1970 TV than live in the real world.
Well they think I should put up with it but I will not
My son sends me the latest trends in Sci-fi so I don't forget the heritage I made for him and me
I don't know what will happen when I get back in three months but by heck I will not have suffered another horrible painful winter with a case of the moans.
Should I change my life slightly at 63 – yes
Would I change my life slightly at 63 – yes
Am I going to change my life – to what extent I do not know at 63 – You bet I am.
There are no pockets or iPhones in shrouds.
Time to start living – even if you are 99 (chap on the TV the other night 103, was in the studio on his way to work for a DIY shed). He did not stop smiling or laughing.
In the end you only have yourself to rely on. My elderly relative thought that her family wanted her – she will get her own back by living long enough to spend what they really wanted and want NOW.
I live my life for other people and have done so always. Then a wicked fairy covered in gold dust showed me that your life is your own. I realised that she was not wicked but the reality fairy and she sprinkled me with her gold dust. My life has got a little better every day since. Thanks Flo [LOL].
My only rule is to do my very very very best not to hurt others, after that, as the song goes 'This is MY LIFE'
And if I want to write articles I will write articles as I love writing articles – that has come on in the last few months – bit like article flu.
No winter – wow, someone waiting for me just for me and my lunacy – wow again.

Agreed. Too often we use excuses and “wouldas.” If there's something that someone really wants to do, they find a way to do it– It's all about passion.
You bring up an important point of time. We all have the same amount of time, so when people say, “I didn't have time,” they are really saying “I didn't make time.”

Thanks for commenting Alexa…I appreciate it.
@garyvee routinely mentions time. People say they don't have enough time but yet have seen every episode of Mad Men or Lost….. People have time.

My fav part here is this.

Would I change my life slightly at 63 – yes
Am I going to change my life – to what extent I do not know at 63 – You bet I am
Age is irrelevant until we're dead. There is always room to do something different than the day before.
Thanks again for a long thoughtful response.

That's right, serve 'em notice!
“You bring up an important point of time. We all have the same amount of time, so when people say, “I didn't have time,” they are really saying “I didn't make time.”"
Too true…
I think it comes down to “How much do you really want *IT*, whatever that *IT* is”…
Do you want *IT*, bad enough to do whatever it takes to get *IT*?
Devise a plan, a course of action, a “map” to your goal, then follow it to whatever your goal is, with FOCUS on that goal. While at the same time, try to remember “If you believe it, you CAN achieve it”!
Be Well!

It took me a looong time to read this very short post! That is because every time you made a point about something, I was looking for a place to apply it into my life and my circumstances.
This is a very thought provoking post. Some people will definitely have a light bulb go on because of this… others will say yeah, yeah. But…
The same person who says yeah, yeah, will have a light bulb go on a different post, about the same thing, but expressed in a different way.
Good job Noah, keep 'em coming, your are very inspirational.

Noah, how do I get rid of that avatar? I didn't choose it. It chose me. But I have to admit, I bought that picture from fotolia, but I have never used it as an avatar… it's on one of my site's headers. Seriously, it just showed itself when I was looking at the comments here.

The good thing about maturing is I take my time to think, to consider, to reflect, that way I actually get wiser and calmer.
Now I am living the life of my dreams. With absolutely no room for shoulda, woulda or coulda and that is my best recommendation.
… and no it is never too late – I was 52 when I started to change.

The key is being able to connect drive to action, and that is not always down to proper planning or will!
It is important to make sure that we don't mask important personal issues with (self) critical comments.

Doesn't that just high light that we are our own worst enemies?
How many of us allow ourselves to be controlled by those around us? We all have free choice and yet so often our time is controlled by our spouse/kids/friends. We think that saying “No” will lead to confrontation, so whenever a suggestion is made we go along with it, despite silently cursing under our breath about the wasted time.
As you get older too often life becomes about the regrets over things you never managed to do instead of looking forward at how you can do them.
I can't remember who said it but “Most people are too busy earning a living to ever make money” is an uncomfortable truth. It doesn't only apply to money though. How many people are too busy earning a living to spend time to get to know their children?
Saddest of all how many people are too busy earning a living to discover what their partner actually wants out of life?
In the UK one of the commonest reasons given in divorce actions is that the man spent an unreasonable amount of time working. While he thought he was doing the best for his family, they felt they were being ignored.
Living your dream is possible, but only if your dream coincides with that of your partner. If it doesn't, you have two choices. Give up or find a new partner.
Having a partner that shares your dreams revitalizes you like nothing else can. The woulda, coulda, shouda becomes I should, I can and I will.
When you make excuses your partner gives you a little kick and you're back on track.
You are talking sound sense Noah. Best of luck finding your new direction, I am sure that following your journey will benefit us all.

Nick,
Thanks for your response here. I'm sorry I missed this earlier. I think you're right with a bunch of the things you're saying and having a supportive partner goes back to the similar lines of my “Tag Team Champtions” post…
Your partner is life is almost like the manager! They need to be on the same page.
Thanks for responding.

Most people have trouble with that part. Nearly everyone has some drive. Most fail in action and execution.
