Leadership Lessons – Creating a Movement

In: Business|Fun Stuff|Success

Have you seen the video of the guy at the outdoor festival who’s dancing like a nut and within minutes has hundreds of people dancing with him?

It’s an awesome video that made the viral rounds a while back. I’m sure you saw it.

Derek Sivers explains that there is more here than meets the eye. He says that what we’re actually seeing is a lesson in leadership. We’re witnessing the creation of a movement from start to finish. And we’re witnessing the Tipping Point in action.

Not to mention it’s a really fun video.

Make sure to watch and listen to the whole thing as the most important part of Derek’s message comes at the end.

(Derek’s original post can be found here)

“When you find a lone nut doing something great, have the guts to be the first person to stand up and join in.” ~ Derek Sivers

Do you know a nut doing something great?

  • I really like the central message which kind of adds a new dimension to popular thinking. We are all encouraged to be leaders, but be the first follower which encourages someone who does something vital.

    It gets one thinking about the potential opportunities which exist out there.
  • A lot of opportunities! All it takes is finding that first follower with the guys to back up your nuttiness!

    That was both fascinating and at the same time scary.

    Classic example of the Herd mentality in action.

    It demonstrates how simply dramatic change can occur but, also how harmful cults have been/could be formed or how riots progress.

    That said, how wonderful would life be if we ALL found that child within us again, which some how...got lost, or was told to be quiet once too often, or simply was ignored repeatedly when we expressed our own wild abandon?

    Look deep inside yourself, for the child could only just be sleeping and not dead and buried.
    Be curious, be amazed and have fun because to quote a famous line;
    "I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and dog-gone it, people like me" Stuart Smalley
